just yesteRday, i encouteRed my fiRst eveR bleedeR!!! we had a bleedeR on satuRday, had anotheR one on monday, so i didn't Really expect a 3Rd bleedeR to come on tuesday when i was in BB..

i was matching blood foR anotheR patient when this doctoR came and asked foR a BB foRm.. i thought it was weiRd, they usually have theiR own foRms.. and by Right i could Reject the specimen since theRe was no counteR signatuRe.. then the doc just suddenly said he wants emeRgency blood.. i got a shock! it was my fiRst time, i didn't know how to React.. theoRy and pRactical aRe 2 diffeRent things! so i asked him whetheR he wants gRoup specific oR emeRgency blood, he wasn't suRe, then he went to make a call to anotheR doc who was with the patient..

i Rushed to the confeRence Room to get mommy LC (luckily it was duRing office houRs and i had help).. and luckily she was theRe to guide me along..

the doc hung up the phone and said he wants 2 pints of EO blood.. then i asked him foR the patient blood so i can't type the patient blood gRoup afteR he take the EO blood. he stunned foR a second, then looked flusteRed! he foRgot wheRe he put the blood.. he then paced up and down the BB section, mouthing the F woRd.. =x

he finally found the blood aRound wheRe the phone was, and i quickly issued 2 pints EO blood foR him, issuing offline.. LC, in the mean time, helped me to type the patient's blood gRoup.. it was B pos.. so i quickly matched anotheR 4 units of B pos blood foR the patient foR standby.. at the same time, i also had to quickly match the 2 emeRgency O blood i issued eaRlieR to check whetheR it was compatible.. the place was in a mess.. my hands went cold, i was neRvous and my hands weRe tRembling a bit.. =x

theRe was a complain fRom a doc foR the bleedeR on monday cos they said we took 45 mins to issue FFP (which takes 30minutes to thaw).. so i was RatheR afRaid of getting anotheR complain cos the manageR just said it was not acceptable duRing Roll call just a few houRs befoRe..

thankfully, it wasn't the typical kind of bleedeR who will take PCT followed by FFP, cRyo and Repeat.. well, B pos haRdly have bleedeRs anyway... (i am B pos!)

cos E blood was given, the doc had to wRite a memo... in the memo, he thanked the BB foR pRoviding blood pRomtly (me!).. then i got so excited bout the memo then XS says i should photocopy the memo and clip it to my appRaisal.. =p yeah!! haha..

anyway, it was quite an expeRience.. =)
